Backstory
A gentleman new to romance was concerned about what happens when the bloom is off the rose. He never experienced love before and was afraid it was something that could fade away. His concern is what’s behind this story.
Love, One Day At a Time
Their paths were very different. He had been a bachelor all his life; she had multiple loves and marriages. They had come together as mature adults and fallen hopelessly in love.
They were enjoying every minute of their time together. And yet, in the deepest, darkest reaches of his soul, he wondered if love would stay alive. Would they still feel this way in five years? Ten years? What could he do to guarantee the heady feeling he got, every time she came into his view?
Having never had this experience before, he worried about it. He saw friends fall in and out of love. What if this love disappeared too? That would be devastating.
Then one day, it occurred to him. Just as life is only guaranteed, one day at a time,
So it is with love. The choice we have is never to experience it because it might one day fade or grab hold and accept every morsel of joy it offers, one day at a time.
As he strokes her silver hair and enjoys her smile one more time, he knows he made the right decision. For thousands of days, he has known this joy, this love. One day at a time. Put them all together, and you have a lifetime. That’s how it works.
P.S. So how do they celebrate this joy? With a prayer of thanks, every single day.
