It will just take a moment to respond. Surely that is the thinking behind those who still text while driving. Yet if we remember back to our teenage driving lessons, how much time does it take to be distracted enough to create an accident? Ten seconds? Less? Certainly the time it takes to text “LOL”.
Texting While Driving
That text message you’d like to send to a friend from your phone – when you’re driving . . . It can wait. It’s not worth taking the life of someone’s loved one. That’s the risk you are taking when you drive and text.
Would you allow someone to drop a blindfold over your eyes for a few seconds while you are driving? There’s no other way to look at it; if you’re trying to focus on text on a phone, you are as good as blindfolded, the whole time. It’s a blatant disregard of the rules of the road.
Some surveys say youngsters are the worst offenders. Others say adults are the ones making themselves and others so vulnerable.
Let’s instill in ourselves and others – It can wait. When you hear that tempting ding that means a message arrived on your phone, let it sit! Do not pick it up! It can wait.
Ask the young people in your life to take the pledge – No text on board. Send them to the website – itcanwait.com. Ask them to be cool and take the pledge. I did.
No texting on-board in my car. Life is too important – mine and the people I might miss seeing, when my eyes are on the phone instead of on the road.
No matter what that message on your phone – It can wait. Save a life in one of the easiest possible ways. Take the pledge. It can wait.

If we owe each other the wearing of a mask to protect each other, we sure owe displacement of electronic messaging while practicing one of the biggest privileges we have – the right to mobility. Get behind the wheel – forget the phone.

I pledge! I use hands-free bluetooth to talk on the phone sometimes, but even that is probably more dangerous than having a conversation with a passenger in the car. I’d be interested to see research on it.

I pledge. Although I’ve pledged that since I got this fancy phone. I don’t talk on the phone and drive either. And I wish others would take the pledge as well – my grandsons, my son, and my daughter-in-law are on these roads!
